Presentation Topic: Livermorium Plaza Project
The presentation will provide an overview of the Livermorium Plaza Project. The plaza is located in the heart of downtown Livermore and the design reflects the structure of the Livermorium element which completed construction in June 2022. The focal point is a granite water ball weighing 11,000 lbs representing the nucleus. The site design included 116 electrons are represented by markers with scientific facts in-ground lights and tree wells. The central water ball was engraved with Livermorium facts provided by the Lawrence Livermore National Lab and the ball itself was shipped from overseas. The bands circling the fountain represented the seven orbitals of the atom. Major challenges included extensive lead and carbon remediation while protecting the adjacent brick building business. The solution included 40' deep helical piles and hydrocarbon columns installed in a construction sequence to support removing over 3500 tons of contaminated soil.
