The Southbay Engineers Club is pleased to welcome Rachael Keish and Remi Awosana speak about the lessons learned
from the wettest year on record. Last winter broke records for rain - the wettest in 122 years - and took
the construction industry by surprise after 3 years of record breaking drought. The storms were not
individually huge, but just kept coming! Delivering projects in these extremes takes planning and
preparation – starting in design and through construction. Come discuss lessons learned from the wettest
year on record, tips for designing and constructing a project for success, and what we learned to do for
future projects (without breaking the budget)!
Our Presenters:
Rachael Keish has 18 years of experience in civil engineering, specializing in environmental engineering, storm water, and construction mitigation compliance. She assists agencies with stormwater program compliance under NPDES permits. Rachael is a CASQA qualified trainer under the Statewide Construction General Permit and Industrial General Permit, as well as a QSP/D and QISP. Her project experience includes work in design and construction, and as CEO of Keish Environmental she oversees environmental compliance on large infrastructure projects such as the BART Silicon Valley Extension and water district flood control and restoration projects. She is also an Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) with the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure, as well as an ISI Verifier and Trainer. Rachael is active in CASQA, WTS, CMAA, APWA, CWPA, and ASCE, currently serving as the San Francisco Section ASCE Sustainability Committee Chair and CASQA Non-Traditional Phase 2 MS4 Workgroup coordinator. Rachael has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin, and a M.S. in Environmental Engineering from UC Berkeley.
Joining Rachael will be Remi Awosanya, a transportation engineer with over 20 years of experience in design and project management of major Civil Engineering infrastructure projects. Remi has been involved with the design and project management of the BART Extension to San Jose, in the completion of Mountain View Double Track that added a second LRT track extending the existing VTA LRT east of Mountain View, as well as the Santa Clara Pedestrian Underpass Construction in Santa Clara. Recently promoted to the position of VTA Construction Contract Compliance Officer, Remi’s responsibilities include: ensuring that construction contracts comply with applicable labor regulations and standards, state construction contract law, and other regulatory requirements, and enforcing said requirements in the field.
